چکیده

Upon the adoption of an external lubrication system (ELS) for tableting, control of the content uniformity of lubricant among tablets and its distribution on the tablet surface becomes extremely important. An energy-dispersion X-ray analyzer (EDX) attached to a scanning electron microscope was used to assess these parameters. The content of magnesium stearate (Mg-St) on the tablet surface significantly increased upon the application of the charged voltage of ELS on the upper punch side, die side, and lower punch side of tablet. However, there was no significant difference between the various charged voltages. Further, Mg-St concentration decreased with an increase in tableting rate and was almost the same at the center, edge, and middle of the tablet surface. A relatively large deviation of the data suggested the localization of Mg-St on the tablet surface. A clear correlation was observed between tablet disintegration time and Mg-St concentration. These findings may help empirical understanding of the role of Mg-St in the tableting process.

Application of external lubrication during the roller compaction of adhesive pharmaceutical formulations.

A novel use of external lubrication has been investigated in which magnesium stearate was applied directly to the roll surface during roller compaction. A scalable parameter; travelling roll distance per shot (D(pS)), has been defined which ensures that an equal amount of magnesium stearate is applied to the roll surface per rotation at any roll speed. It was found that a formulation containing...

Lubricants in Pharmaceutical Solid Dosage Forms

Lubrication plays a key role in successful manufacturing of pharmaceutical solid dosage forms; lubricants are essential ingredients in robust formulations to achieve this. Although many failures in pharmaceutical manufacturing operations are caused by issues related to lubrication, in general, lubricants do not gain adequate attention in the development of pharmaceutical formulations. In this p...

Evaluation of the compression process diagram in presence of magnesium stearate

In the pharmaceutical industry is no longer worked without instrumented tablet presses. The recording of the press information at different parameters of each test series and batches in the development of tablets and an online measurement and control of pressing forces during the production process is becoming increasingly important. Eccentric tablet presses were equipped with sensors for the u...
